Even after explaining that it was merely an example (exactly what was asked for) and that the point was that there is nothing you can do about it, rather than seeing the repeated point, they continued to harp on tactics.
My above example is not typical but does happen. What *is*the typical though is a situation like that happening halfway through the game. You may have enough XP to cancel the encounter but then the next three encounters pummel you out of the game. When it happens in the first three turns, just exemplifies the lameness that is Ravenloft.

So now you claim that all you are trying to do is prove that the game is not a good game by coming up with theoretical examples that never actually happened.
So, in effect, you just come in here to whinge about the game, and complain that it MIGHT produce a situation which hits you very hard.
As I have shown, there is a lot you can do, even about the highly improbable situation that you have come up with. Therefore, your example proves nothing, because it involves the players beginning with a foolish strategy, and then continuing with the game without using any of their powers.
All it proves is that if a players plays badly AND has really bad luck, it is possible to lose in turn three.
