I've had CR for years now, but have only recently started using the monster tokens. I thought I'd collect ideas in how to use them. I've been using this distribution:

21 tokens total:

11 "one monster"
5 "zero monsters"
3 "two monsters"
2 "three monsters"

I discard tokens once drawn to reduce swinginess. Basically half of them are single monster business-as-usual tiles, and the other half are either harmless or extra nasty.

I've only played with the tokens a couple of times, but I like it. The game is less predictable, at the cost of the difficulty being a little more inconsistent.

It seems good to keep the number of "normal" tokens - ie one monster - comprising around half of the pool.

How do you play it?
