So after lunch and a walk to the local park, my daughter and I played the first Adventure of Castle Ravenloft. My daughter played Alyssia the human Ranger, I 'played' as the villains (although in this game, the villains are 'activated' by the player. Anyway, i was there to add atmosphere and scary voices and sound effects. If she has nightmares tonight it was not my fault, Okay?We also have Legend Of Drizzt in our collection, and this game (the first in the D&D co-op series) plays pretty much the same. Things started well, my daughter saw off a skeleton, Wraith and a few others. But after a few turns she started to lose some valuable HPs and needed a healing surge. By thee time she neared the hidden staircase, two more surges had been used (I was taking it easy on her) and Strahd was well and truly awake and angry.
Happily she just managed to make it to the stairs as Count Strahd, and a swarm of rats chased her down.
I may have taken a few liberties, with the extra healing surge, but I always believe in having fun while playing games. Especially true when playing with the younger folk. In future adventures, when I join in as other heroes things will not be so easy!
looking forward to re-visiting Castle Ravenloft again soon, also intrigued by the forthcoming book Curse of Strahd which could be used with this game to create some awesomely creepy adventures.
Remember though, the nightmares are not my fault....
