so two games today.

Game 1 was scenario 1 again with cleric (this time healing) and was a win. Not comfortable but not massively close as the vampire was almost on me when I teleported to the other side of the board, so had turns to spare quite comfortably as the escape appeared.

Game 2 was again scenario 1 but with the Ranger.
Did I win or lose?? Ill say it was sooooo close. She did much better this time and had some bad draws that pulled the vampire out pretty early so she took a few hits from him.
At one point, the Vampire, plus ghoul, plus wolf were all on her.
She managed to make a break for it, discovered the escape square and managed to move onto the stair, so next turn she would win! But... the escape tile had a wraith.. she had 2 health left. It attacked, if it misses she takes a wound and goes to next turn and wins, if it hits... 3 damage and death. No more healing surges and no helpful treasure... She coukdnt do enough damage to kill it within 1 turn... She had AC 16 I think and the wraith rolled a combined exactly 16.. noooooo she died. The vampire was only 1 or 2 tiles away again at that point (after a nice move 3 tiles teleport shoved him away) so it was really tense.
A monster with less health than the wraith would have died due to the Rangers close combat ability, so bad luck there. Just pipped to the post, couldnt have been closer. Exciting and tense game :)
